• Traffic court hearings are held at 1:00 p.m. every Tuesday of the month, except holidays. You must appear in court if: 1) you plead not guilty, 2) you plead guilty and wish to offer an explanation, 3) the offense charged is the second violation in Tribal Court for the same offense in the last 12 month period, 4) you were involved in an accident. Failure to appear may result in a default judgment being entered against you.

• The following violations may be paid at the Tribal Court Administrator's Office, or by mail. If you wish to plead guilty, enclose your signed copy of the citation along with the proper fine. Make checks or money orders payable to Leech Lake Tribal Court. Some violations not listed may also be payable without a court appearance. You may call the Tribal Court Administrator's office at (218) 335-4418 or (218) 335-3682 for the amount of the fine.

• SPEEDING:	Careless Driving = $50.00	Driving contrary to restrictions on
  1-10 mph over the limit = $25.00	Reckless Driving = $100.00	on license or permit = $25.00
  11-20 mph over the limit = $50.00	Failure to Reduce Speed as	Failure to use seat belts or child
  21-30 mph over the limit = $100.00	appropriate for conditions = $50.00	restraint devices = $25.00
  30 + mph over the limit = $200.00	Impeding Traffic = $50.00	Failure to stop for school bus = $250.00
  Expired/No Driver’s License = $100.00	U-Turn = $50.00	No proof of Insurance = $25.00
  Motor Vehicle Registration = $25.00	Failure to stop at traffic light/stop sign = $25.00

• NO PROOF OF INSURANCE: You are required to provide to the Court Administrator's office by mail or in person proof that your vehicle was insured on the day the citation was issued. If you do not have insurance, you must appear in court on the date set by the officer. Proof of insurance must include: 1) The vehicle that you were operating must be identified, 2) Coverage for the date of the violation must be indicated, 3) It must be on a letterhead from the insurance company or their agent, 4) The policy # and agent's telephone # must be included, 5) It must be signed by an authorized agent of the company.
