The
Leech Lake Nutrition Program includes a
tribal nutritionist who is a registered
dietitian (RD) and three nutrition
assistants (NEA's). The
nutrition staff provides nutrition
education to the Leech Lake community and
varity of organizations such as: Head
Start, WIC, Schools, Diabetes Clinics,
Youth Programs, Public Health Nursing,
Chemical Dependency Outpatient Groups and
Fitness Center. Many
topics may be covered such as:
healthly
eating
cooking
for one or two
preventing
diabetes and other diseases
maternal
and child nutrition
weight
loss or weight gain
using
commodities
gardening
saving
money at the grocery store
keeping
food safe
Group or
one-on-one settings are available on
certain topics such as diabetes, cancer,
heart disease, weight gain or other
concerns through a referral by a doctor
or other health professional. |
